A community of bright, friendly folks who are building the future of Southern foodways
We are fortunate to count among our friends some of the brightest culinary artisans, entrepreneurs and activists in the South. We exist to tell their stories and to make sure their good work finds a hungry audience.
We call this community of doers the “Swing Shift.” The idea is simple: The South and its foodways are in flux, and it’s up to us to decide what the future will bring.
We’re the swing shift at the late night diner, trying to clean up the mess left by the morning crew before our regulars start streaming in clamoring for coffee and pie.
We’re fighting for a South that is more just, sustainable and delightful than the one we inherited. If that sounds like a mission you can get behind, consider joining us.
All Swing Shift Members Receive:
- Our periodic newsletter filled with news from the front-lines of Southern foodways
- The opportunity to be featured in our chefs’ dinners, storytelling salons and other culinary events
- The opportunity to attend our semi-annual Swing Shift retreat, an intimate gathering of some of the brightest minds in Southern foodways
We’re recruiting partners for the following upcoming events. Click “details” to learn more about each opportunity. Participation slots are limited, so don’t wait to sign up.
Peat & Pearls | Nov. 16-17 | Pensacola, FL
Peat & Pearls, now in its third year, is a celebration of Scotch & regional, farm-raised oysters. We’re seeking Southern chefs and oyster farmers to join us, Glenfiddich and other brand partners for the swankiest oyster party this side of the Mason-Dixon line.
